Happy Thanksgiving 2022 – a Message from Jodi

By: Jodi Arias

“Thanksgiving at Perryville is a time when the weather is cooler and most people are in a better mood. In the spirit of tradition, many of us get together and share good food and warm drinks (hot chocolate, coffee, mocha, or cappuccino).

For me, Thanksgiving is always a reminder to reflect on my blessings. I feel profound gratitude for the warmth and kindness and support sent from people all over the world. I wish I had the bandwidth to thank everyone individually. I feel your love and I’m grateful!”

Jodi Update: “The Moment I’ve Been Waiting For” 9/2022

“The Moment I’ve Been Waiting For.”
By: Jodi Arias

The Vampire Chronicles, adapted from the novels by Anne Rice, is set to air on AMC next week on Sunday, October 2nd!

I’ve been working my way through Anne Rice’s books with an intentional slow burn since high school, not wanting them to end. I’ve even reread some of them. When I read an article last year announcing that AMC had optioned the rights, I literally shrieked and shouted, “Oh, my God! I’ve been waiting my whole life for this!”

I became a walking advertisement for the show. I went around the yard thrusting the article at every person who loved her books, too. I brought it to work at the library — along with all my enthusiasm — and shared it with every patron who showed even the slightest interest in Anne Rice’s novels or any other vampire fiction.

A few weeks ago, I finally saw a trailer for the show. It shows great promise of being faithful to the “savage garden” through which Anne Rice’s vampires stalk. These characters — “Children of the Night” — are not Stephanie Meyer’s sparkling Twilight beauties. Exquisitely noir and a little disturbing, the show is definitely for diehard fans like myself, but producers and the cast hope it will gain a vast new audience as well.

Vampires may not be your goblet of wine, and that’s fine. But I am beside myself with anticipation about The Vampire Chronicles finally coming to life on screen in a treatment worthy of the woman who dreamt up this intricate cosmology.

Late last year on a dark December morning, I awoke to a friend’s email that said, “I’m sorry about Anne Rice. I know she is important to you.”

Knowing what that meant, I turned on the news — because why wouldn’t the news be broadcasting the noteworthy passing of a remarkable author? All the TV media outlets were talking politics, as though politics were all that mattered in a world that no longer included one of my favorite authors.

I turned off the TV and opened the news app on my tablet. There, I found Anne Rice’s picture. She was smiling, beautiful, with salt-and-pepper hair cut to a clean bob. Thankfully, the Associated Press thought this phenomenal woman’s final night among the living was worthy of mentioning.

I couldn’t read the article, not because of the tears that began filling my eyes, but because I wasn’t a subscriber. I immediately bought a subscription and read that she died at the age of 80, a mere baby in the lifespan of her undying characters.

Later that month, I published a tribute to her and her work titled “The Immortal Maven of Vampires.” It was difficult to fathom that she would write no more novels giving life to the characters I had grown to adore. It felt as though they, too, had all died. Their exploits were ceased, their eternity frozen. But now her literary world is being resurrected and new life will reanimate her characters.

The stories Anne Rice gave us, while largely defined by vampires, were hardly confined to vampires. She also wrote about werewolves, witches, mummies, and Atlantians. She wrote about ghosts and angels and demons. She wrote a series of erotica and even a memoir. Above all, she wrote about humanity and the implications of immortality.

Her Vampire Chronicles alone are replete with immortal characters both ancient and young whose stories could not have been fully explored within the span of a single human lifetime. Had Anne Rice lived another 80 years, she could have continued churning out still more explorations into the characters who appear in her books.

I harbor the hope — and I’m certain I’m not alone in this with fans of her work — that she authored forthcoming books which have not yet been published. Many creative people of renown (writers, musicians, painters, poets), among whom Anne Rice must surely be counted, release posthumous work.

Production of the show began before she died and I’m heartened to know that, before she left us, she knew her vision would finally be translated to the screen on her terms. Her son Christopher Rice, an executive producer of the show, will undoubtedly do his mother’s legacy justice.

She once said in an interview, “I want to be immortal.” I hope it was enough for her to know that her words, her works, and her worlds are immortalized in the masterpieces she bequeathed to us.

Jodi News Update #108 – May 2022

Here’s the latest Jodi News Update (#108) for May 2022:

**********

Lumley Unit, where Jodi resides at Perryville, has once again undergone changes imposed by higher-ups… those corporate heads who neither live nor work at Perryville, but sit in air-conditioned offices an hour away in Phoenix with grand ideas of fixing what isn’t broken and ignoring what is. Much of the population at Perryville was recently moved around to various units.

In Arizona, most prison inmates fall under one of four custody levels in the following descending order:

1. Maximum
2. Close
3. Medium
4. Minimum

Jodi is medium custody. Maximum custody was eliminated at Perryville. Close custody, from 2018 until last month, was split between two units. Now, all close custody inmates reside on Lumley Unit. One yard remains medium custody. Another houses a mixed bag comprising the mental health unit (close-custody adjacent), detention (those under investigation), and inmates awaiting classification.

Jodi moved off the yard with air conditioning last November and in with a smoker who, out of courtesy, stopped smoking inside the cell while Jodi housed there. Now, Jodi lives with a nonsmoker in a room with a swamp cooler.

She’s working full-time. She’s not taking college courses anymore. She hated them, despite her 4.0. She wants to learn German. She’s still making awesome art – check out ArtbyJodiArias.com and Instagram.com/ArtbyJodiArias for more info.

Earlier this month, she hugged her family for the first time since before the pandemic. Visitation had been cancelled since March 2020, then was re-implemented in June 2021 with lots of social-distancing protocols. This month, the Department began allowing visitors to hug again, so Jodi practically had the air squeezed out of her by family who missed her dearly.

One of the most nonsensical things that persists in Arizona’s prisons is the mask requirement for inmates and officers. Despite Arizona’s governor having long since declared an end to the state of emergency from the pandemic and the CDC lifting mask mandates, Perryville remains ever behind on the times.

Jodi News Update #107 – March 2022

Here’s the latest Jodi News Update (#107) for March 2022:

**********

There is not much new to report in Jodi’s world. She has enjoyed the cool desert winter, taking life one day at a time. Over the last year, she took a college English course and is happy to finally have completed it with a 4.0 grade-point average.

The fight to overturn Jodi’s wrongful conviction entered the PCR phase (post-conviction relief) last year. Her attorney has spent much of the year combing through over one hundred boxes of files and CDs, many of which are mislabeled and poorly organized, having come from several different offices and at least five different attorneys. Trying to arrange and make sense of such a mess has delayed the process.

Meanwhile, donations are still being accepted at Justice4Jodi.com to support her legal struggle until she obtains justice. It is no secret that Jodi deeply regrets what she did, but no woman should ever lose her life or her freedom for successfully fighting off her abuser.

Lastly, Jodi has continued creating art, which you can find at Instagram.com/ArtbyJodiArias. You can also read her latest blog post about one of her favorite drawings, called Tears, at ArtbyJodiArias.com. All purchases made from the Art site support Jodi.

9th Anniversary + a Christmas Message from Jodi

With over 11 million page views & well over 7 million visitors since 2012 — December 20th 2021 marks the 9th anniversary of our Jodi Arias Is Innocent .com website launch.

So with Christmas just a few days away – I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support over the past 9 years – and thank you in advance for your continued support moving forward through 2022 and beyond.

**********

Here’s Jodi’s Christmas Message:

“Hi, Everyone!

“We don’t need the New Year to refocus our goals and aspirations, but it’s always a great reminder to do just that. A friend of mine asked me around this time last year, “What do you want to accomplish in 2021?” Off the cuff, I answered, “I wanna write a book.” She said, “Me, too. Let’s do it.” Then, neither of us did.

“Instead, I decided to take another college course, thinking I could work on that and write a book (and hold down a job and churn out beautiful art and…) I told another friend in a celebratory tone, “Degree, here I come!” But the course taught me something I did not expect to learn about myself: that I don’t want a degree that badly. I’m glad to be finishing with a 4.0 and I’ll be glad to soon have it behind me, but I think I hated it. I’ll definitely not be taking anymore courses in the near future.

“As for the book I probably won’t get around to writing, of the few people with whom I’ve shared my idea, one was a naysaying nag and the rest had really big reactions. So let me just stem any excitement about this tentative project: I will not be publishing this book in my name, I will (probably) not promote it as one I have written, and it would be a very niche, nonfiction topic that would only draw a small audience of readers — if any. The goal is not to sell copies. I just want to get it written because when I went looking for this exact kind of book just over a year ago, it didn’t seem to exist.

“Enough of that. I want to wish everyone a safe and happy Christmas or whatever you might be celebrating, and a very happy New Year. Thank you all for your warm love, your undeserved kindness, and your steadfast support.

“Much love and gratitude to you always!”

— Jodi Arias

ArtByJodiArias.com – UPDATE

Jodi’s personal efforts to raise money for her appeals continue through the production of her art, which is sold at ArtbyJodiArias.com. Her art admin supports her efforts by running this “side hustle” of sorts on her behalf and taking none of the funds. The time and effort he devotes to this process (filing the taxes, trips to the post office every week to ship art) are an invaluable contribution.

To finish off this festive update, here’s our all-time #1 favorite Jodi-Christmas classic — O Holy Night.”

Just like me, it never gets old.

Btw… I was planning to liven things up a little this year, and go with one of my other yuletide faves: “Snowflakes Melting On An Open Fire” – but ultimately opted to play it safe with O Holy Night.” Enjoy!

Happy Thanksgiving – a Message from Jodi

Hi, everyone!

SJ has allowed me to utilize this platform to say, “Happy Thanksgiving!” and tell you how grateful I am for your continued support. For those outside the US, Thanksgiving is celebrated here in November. (Canadian Thanksgiving comes a little earlier in the fall.)

A lot of people ask me what this holiday is like at Perryville. It’s really just another day, except we get two meals instead of three. This is unfortunate for some people who can’t afford their own food, but since one of those meals usually involves turkey and pumpkin pie, most people are cool with it.

I’m grateful that so many amazing people have stood by me through what would otherwise surely be a lonely nightmare. You have enriched my life in ways I can never repay. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I would like to share this quote I came across attributed to Helen Keller, who puts it much more eloquently than I ever could:

“My friends have made the story of my life. In a thousand ways they have turned my limitations into beautiful privileges and enabled me to walk serene and happy in the shadow cast by my deprivation.”

Much love and gratitude to you all!

<3 — Jodi

Jodi News Update #106 – October 2021

Here’s the latest Jodi News Update (#106) for October 2021:

**********

Some of you may have already noticed at Justice4Jodi.com that the balance of the JAA Appellate Fund has jumped substantially this year. This is thanks to the collective efforts of many awesome people who donated since last spring. Around that time, an anonymous supporter of Jodi’s pledged to match every dollar donated to the fund until the end of this year, up to $35,000, for a doubled increase of $70,000.

Sometime in late August, along came another angel donor and topped off the match to bring it up to its now doubled amount of $70,000! This person basically shocked the hell out of everyone, including Jodi, who is humbled, amazed, and grateful.

Jodi’s appeals have now entered the PCR (Post-Conviction Relief) stage. She was appointed new counsel this year and they are just beginning to get their feet wet on this wildly complex case. Because of the volumes and volumes of reports, transcripts, and records, PCR is expected to take several years to complete. This gives Jodi a moderate buffer of time to continue raising money for her appellate fund.

Depending on what transpires during PCR, the funds in the Appellate trust will be needed for different things. One possibility would be to retain new trial attorneys. If her conviction is overturned, this doesn’t meant there would be another trial, but she would still need new lawyers to represent her. If her conviction is upheld, the funds will be needed to retain a lawyer (or lawyers or a law firm) to guide her case through the labyrinthine federal circuits.

Jodi’s defense during the previous trial and pretrial phases cost millions of dollars. Therefore, the fund will continue accepting donations at Justice4Jodi.com to enable her to fight her wrongful conviction and position her to retain the most competent legal counsel available.

In the meantime, Jodi’s personal efforts to raise money for her appeals continue through the production of her art, which is sold at ArtbyJodiArias.com. Her art admin supports her efforts by running this “side hustle” of sorts on her behalf and taking none of the funds. The time and effort he devotes to this process (filing the taxes, trips to the post office every week to ship art) are an invaluable contribution.

If you are interested in another way to contribute to the cause, any purchase at ArtbyJodiArias.com is a legitimate way to support Jodi. Her art is also featured on Instagram @ArtbyJodiArias.

Jodi and her family want to thank everyone who pulled together this year to help her along in her formidable legal fight. She is grateful beyond words.

**********

APPELLATE FUND UPDATE:

The JAA Appellate Fund total currently stands at $170,144.95 — so let’s be sure to keep the momentum rolling so the fund total can push on towards the ultimate target of $250,000. That in turn will help towards covering all the legal fees associated with appealing Jodi’s wrongful conviction. All donations via Justice4Jodi.com go directly to the fund. It is also the ONLY website authorized to collect donations.

Jodi News Update #105 – August 2021

Here’s the latest Jodi News Update (#105) for August 2021:

Late last month, Jodi was uprooted from her assigned room and moved to a different area of Lumley Unit. At first, the staff were evasive about the reasons she had to move, but later, several staff members revealed that they were briefed about a guy who had been making threats to break Jodi out of Perryville, and who had actually begun driving to Arizona from the east coast to carry out his moronic plan.

This moron, who will remain unnamed here, was already known to the staff at Perryville. Since last spring, his photo has been posted at the front entrance where staff enter the prison for work. With it was a warning to look out for this asshole should he be spotted anywhere on the premises.

So what changed? According to one corrections officer, late last month, Mr. Moron was pulled over somewhere east of the Mississippi because he had been driving erratically. He admitted to the police officer who pulled him over that he had been lost for two days and was trying to get to Arizona where he was going to “rescue Jodi Arias.” However that strange conversation must have proceeded, the police officer was concerned enough that he or she reported this information and, through the appropriate channels, the Arizona Department of Corrections was informed.

It was because of this tip that the prison decided that this guy may in fact be more unstable than was previously estimated. What had been treated as a mild threat and a warning about a random person had suddenly been elevated because of this person’s decision to act upon his fantasy of rescuing damsel Jodi so they could live happily ever after in non-reality.

Jodi, in her Perryville bubble, remained unaware of these developments until one afternoon while at work in the Lumley Library, two Sergeants informed her that, per the Major (the Warden’s right hand person) she had to move. They weren’t allowed to tell her why. But as the following days unfolded, she learned that because the yard on which she was housed had a direct view to Perryville’s ungated parking lot, this was cause for concern. Also, the yard to which she was moved has an extra razor-wire perimeter fence, providing a little extra security.

She had a difficult time adjusting. On her previous yard, Jodi had settled into a quiet routine of schoolwork, library work, and nursing sapling palm trees. She even had a sometime pet pigeon named April who would land on her hand if Jodi bribed her with sunflower kernels. She also had a decent roommate. But she had to leave all of it.

One tradeoff that Jodi doesn’t hate: Her new room has air conditioning. Thousands of women are housed at Perryville, but many of them are forced to suffer the dangerous summer heat because the Arizona Department of Corrections will not invest in converting all housing units’ wimpy swamp coolers to more efficient air conditioning.

While it seems preposterous that one guy should be cause for concern — a guy who is so out of touch with reality that he actually believes he can bust Jodi out of there and they’ll be blissfully wedded spouses — the Department isn’t taking any chances. Earlier this year, two men escaped from a different facility in Arizona, causing the Department national public embarrassment.

Jodi News Update #104 – May 2021

Here’s the latest Jodi News Update (#104) for May 2021:

**********

Members of the U.S. Military are onsite at Perryville this week administering the Moderna vaccine to anyone who wants to be vaccinated.

Inmates housed on Lumley Unit, including Jodi, received theirs this morning. The military rolled onto the Perryville complex earlier this week with a truckload of vaccines (thanks to the joint efforts of the current and former presidencies), and has been administering them to the thousands of women housed there.

Late last month, vaccinations began at Perryville for the inmate population 55 years and older. Their second dose was administered this week. Everyone below that age group is now being offered their first dose.

Receiving the vaccine is optional, but most women on Lumley Unit are choosing to be vaccinated both for their health and with the hope that visitation will soon reopen so that mothers who haven’t held their children in over a year can finally do so.

The Arizona Department of Corrections has also used the pandemic as an excuse to prevent attorneys for the ACLU and other organizations that focus on civil rights abuses from entering and inspecting its state prisons. With the advent of population-wide immunity, many people are hopeful for a return to normalcy.

Jodi News Update #103 – April 2021

Here’s the latest Jodi News Update (#103) for April 2021:

**********

NEW MATCHING FUNDRAISER CAMPAIGN FOR JODI’S LEGAL FIGHT!

We are pleased to announce that an anonymous donor has pledged to match all donations made to the JAA Appellate Fund at Justice4Jodi.com, dollar for dollar, up to $35,000! Any amount you donate between now and the end of the year will be DOUBLED. The goal is to raise $70,000 by year’s end. Doing so will place Jodi within reach of being able to obtain legal counsel after the standard petitions funded by the state are concluded.

Jodi’s case has now entered a new phase in the fight to overturn her wrongful conviction: Post-Conviction Relief (PCR). She was recently appointed new counsel who will need to spend untold hours familiarizing themselves with this complex case, which is riddled with corruption by the state, gaps in due process, and unprecedented occurrences such as the disbarment of both the prosecutor and the lead defense attorney.

The Arizona Court of Appeals found pervasive misconduct by the prosecution and issued a scathing review of its handling of Jodi’s case. Despite this court’s abject disgust of the prosecutor, it failed to throw out her conviction. Jodi’s public defenders petitioned the Arizona Supreme Court to review the Court of Appeals’s decision, but this higher court declined to do so.

[Of note is the fact that one of the seats on the AZ Supreme Court is held by Bill Montgomery, the same guy who:

1. Was in charge of the prosecutor’s office during both times Jodi went to trial

2. Refused to give up the pursuit of having Jodi killed via the death penalty

3. Has publicly commented about Jodi’s case

4. Allowed his pet prosecutor to violate ethical rules by publishing a book about the case

5. Was the subject of a now-dismissed bar complaint filed by Jodi’s lawyers for reasons in the above number four.

Yes, this guy sits on the AZ Supreme Court. As you can see, prosecutorial misconduct isn’t the only thing pervasive and persistent in Arizona. The “Ol’ Boys’ Club” protecting such corruption has its tentacles in the state’s highest court.]

Jodi’s PCR lawyers will be asking the same judge who sat through both trials to make an impartial determination that Jodi didn’t get a fair trial. Although this is obvious to everyone, including the Court of Appeals, what Superior Court judge — an elected official employed because voters said so — is going to admit that a miscarriage of justice occurred in her own courtroom on her watch?

It’s ridiculous and almost unfair to ask her to admit such. But not as ridiculous as the trials Jodi was forced to endure, and not as unfair as how Jodi was chewed up and spit out by the so-called justice system. After the PCR petition is filed, even if the trial judge agrees to hear argument, this doesn’t mean she will agree to do the right thing by overturning the draconian sentence she dealt Jodi in the first place.

So we press on in our fight to get her conviction overturned and thrown out! Now is the time to donate because your dollar will be doubled. PCR is the last stage of taxpayer-funded recourse that Jodi has. Afterwards, she must pay for her own lawyers to guide her case through the labyrinthine federal circuit. And that’s the main reason the JAA Appellate Fund exists: to raise money to retain a lawyer so that when the time comes, Jodi can afford the justice she has long been denied.

Please go to Justice4Jodi.com to make a donation today.

**********

FUND UPDATE: The JAA Appellate Fund total currently stands at $101,375.94 — so let’s be sure to keep the momentum rolling so the fund total can push on towards the ultimate target of $250,000. That in turn will help towards covering all the legal fees associated with appealing Jodi’s wrongful conviction.

All donations via Justice4Jodi.com go directly to the fund. It is also the ONLY website authorized to collect donations.

In addition, please DO NOT, under any circumstances, donate through any other website or Facebook page/group claiming to be “official” and/or acting with Jodi’s approval or authorization.
