Seems to me he said he never got a letter he got a copy of a letter sent to TA.
Maybe Abe thinks he can squeeze the truth & can deny receiving the letter because maybe he got a CC (carbon copy) of the letter and not a letter sent directly to him, or a copy in another way or information received in another way.
Could Jodi have mis-sent the CC to Abe that was meant for Travis; and the ‘Letter’ sent to Travis that was meant for Abe?

Remember that 72 minute sidebar Pitts was complaining about? After JM agreeing that Jodi could use depositions or affidavits, he decided to object to most of their content. They were sliced and diced and the defence was left with very little. Another thing to add to Nurmi’s ever growing appeal.
JM is not going to like that he won’t get to cross examine Jodi again because she is not taking the stand.
In mitigation the defendant has the right to address the jury directly without cross examination.
Her testimony on those two days, I guess, amounts to a guided speech to the jury.
Oh, that’s interesting, Journee. Well then, I guess it would be good for her to finish. I was picturing Juan as VULTURE.

I have a question: why are the jury members not protected from the public? When and where did this happen?
Perhaps the person who approached that juror did so in order to get that specific juror bumped off the jury because that juror seemed to be for Jodi’s believability, sincerity, honesty & perhaps her total innocence. …That is what the DT has to find out, IMO. …I saw it done in another case where someone from the public approached a juror member (at the security turnstile) and said something about the weather, I think, and that juror got bumped in that trial. …I would not be surprised if the person who approached the juror is put on the stand in open court.
It’s sad that this could actually be the truth. Hoops and games and manipulation and straight out lies…..that doesn’t sound like justice to me.

They have a right to be present at every pretrial hearing, every legal proceeding regarding the case. I don’t know that that would extend to witness interviews, or why they should even get to listen to a witness interview.
I don’ t think that any family aligned with the prosecutor, should ever be able to ‘sit in on’ witness interviews, or even get to listen to a witness interview.
Giving any such family that degree of access, can definitely contaminate and influence the interview, and even being able to hear witness interviews from a separate location can give the family, and prosecutor, a means to exploit and manipulate the information and access in unforseen ways, and in ways that might not even be apparent, but still detrimental in their effect.
Can you imagine Abe and Jodi face to face!! Jodi will not let him get away with lies. He won’t be expecting that at all.
If Abe is like the rest of these goons he won’t have any problem lying IMO.
It will be good for Jodi to be there though. Jodi has nothing to hide but he does.

I understand about the DT interviewing Abe. . .I got that one. . I just didn’t understand why the Alexanders would be allowed to sit in on that. They have been given to much input into this whole trial and it needs to stop. Their opinions should not matter, only the truth should matter. This is what they wanted from the beginning so they should keep their seats and control their drama and let whatever happens happen. They apparently wanted all of the truth to come out about their sick perverted brother so be it. They wanted the DP so here we all are. Wonder how many times the prosecutor and the Alexanders wish they had accepted the plea deal with Jodi? That’s good news about Jodi not finishing her testimony. If JM got his teeth into her it would be nothing but blow by blow sexual experiences with all her past boyfriends, which was carefully not mentioned in her 2 days on the stand.
Last night I was going through the complete tweets from the regular tweeters to see if I could pick up any more info. Nuthin! Whatever can be said about Trial Diaries, thank God she’s prolific. We wouldn’t have even half of the juror questions if she hadn’t given them to us.
I guess we just have to learn how to translate her tweets – which you all do so well anyway – and be grateful she’s at least sending us the information.
Just read Journee’s comment that the defense doesn’t get to question Jodi either way. Now I think it’s a shame that Jodi isn’t going to finish her testimony – any time we can get rid of Juan the Ripper is a blessing.
One more reason for a mistrial that she feels she can’t finish testimony.
There is much going on in the courtroom today by the sounds of things. This Abe character thinks a great deal of himself. i have cruised by his face book and he is one nasty critter. Just the perfect witness for Juan. Fraternal twins. So if the defense has no more witnesses, the bishop will be Juan’s witness and the mormon tradition of sticking together is still in place. As far as Deanna goes, I see her as someone who continues to be used and abused by all those who want to see Jodi die. Her life sure got complicated by her involvement with the Alexanders. There is one who knows all things and I put my confidence in that Greater Good, rather than the lies and twisted information of the Arizona court. It only takes one juror to see through all of this crap and it won’t be a Mormon juror.

2 Friends of Travis and Jodi.
One was married to a man who she thought might be involved in Travis’ murder, but the ‘detectives’ never interviewed him (I think) and if they did it was by phone.
Canada Carol or Journee will know the names. Others might also be able to shed more light on your question. It should have been important during the guilt phase of the trial but the defense didn’t want to go there, or maybe they didn’t have money for an investigator.
Since the prosecutor’s office didn’t have to spend much on the investigation (by arresting Jodi right off) then the defense didn’t get much money to investigate thoroughly; they only get equal the amount the prosecutor gets in the case of Public Defenders.

He was a PD when he first was assigned Jodi’s case. Asked to leave the case when he went to private practice but the judge wouldn’t let him, settled on a set fee for his continued services, as stated above.

Joshua Freeman – brother of Dan and Desiree, shot himself in the head on the very day Jodi was arrested. The gun he used was of such a small caliber that he did not die right away, but lingered a few days before passing.
Another death that was deemed a suicide was Ashley Reed Thompson in March 2010, by then the ex-wife of Dustin Thompson that is named in the Flores report (Ashley phoned in an anonymous tip that her husband might have been involved in Travis’ death.) There is a link above in the headers, I think, to Ashley’s autopsy report. The gunshot wound to the head that killed her seems, to most of US, to be inconsistent with self inflicted because the angle of the wound was slightly back to front and also slightly upward to downward.
According to Gus Searcy, there was a third suicide among Travis’ circle of so-called-friends, but I have not heard if anyone’s been able to confirm that.
that is very scary, I am sure that Jodi’s witnesses know this and frankly would scare anyone.
Journee, I never heard about the caliber of the gun Joshua used. Interesting that it was a small caliber and he LIVED a while after he shot himself… Could it be a similar caliber gun to the one Travis had? That could help explain a lot about how T could have still been alive when Jodi left.
I’ve never seen it stated anywhere what caliber of gun he used, just that it was a small caliber, and Dan said it was a gun that Joshua had procured for himself.
I probably don’t need to mention anything about a certain .25 auto that’s never been found, or how odd a ‘coincidence’ it is that Joshua was found in the side-yard of his parent’s home, with a gunshot wound to his head, on the very day Jodi was arrested.
Probably just a coincidence, also, that Dan said Joshua committed suicide because he was molested as a child and had been struggling for a few years with his own desires for children.

And I cannot think of a single reason for specifying a particular florist that doesn’t suggest that this young man’s tragic death is being used to line someone’s pocket.

I think your right. Perhaps a family member owns a flower shop?? But that still makes your statement true. Never have I ever heard of such a thing. Only a family requesting in and lue of flowers please donate to such and such charity….
How about donating to the Boys Scout of America, the Humane Society or Feed the Homeless instead of suggesting to send flowers that will benefit no one. Although the flowers would be nice to look at for a few minutes that is all it would do. Your not wrong Journee, they let no opportunity pass without cashing in, in some way. It is sad to lose a child in any manner but what about leave a memorial for others to remember him by instead of promoting a business.

Why not donate to the Boys Scouts of America to educate them on the importance of “Safety At All Times” or “Respect For Others & Their Property”. I can’t forget Dave Hall interest in safety for the future hikers and the boulder rolling incident. They might benefit from a course of “safety and respect of property”.
Arizonians are so easily herded ready to be told where to send their money!!
I cannot imagine them even talking about a Trust Fund at this ‘terribly tragic moment’ in their lives.
Not to mention naming one florist to send flowers (personally speaking: which are such a waste).
It is very sad that this child wasn’t taught to respect authority and ‘wait’ till the leaders returned with protective safety equipment for them to wear. I know, it is not right to speak ill; but the story stated what happened so it should be a lesson learned by everyone with children to raise, in fact a lesson for everyone to learn.
Just wait until everything is safe and ready.
I feel for the leaders of these Boy Scouts. They teach preparedness as a significant part of the boys’ training. They are having to cope with their grief, too, and they must be terribly upset.

Found it and that you!! I have a family member who is a victim of this at the age of 3. He came from a very loving family. But it has effected his life. He has girls but I know he lives with the stigma.
I do understand the circle of abuse but I also think that it is also true that it has to do with the environment the child lives in at the time. I wonder if TA grandmother ever know that this happened to him??? Did he tell anyone else??

In this trial, I doubt JSS will ever charge anyone on the prosecution’s side with contempt, regardless of how severe an act.
Yet, in any other court, Deannna probably would not have been ‘forgiven’ so easily for not being truthful earlier.
Now, it seems she is starting to play with fire in her contrivance to pretend she never did or said what she said.
It seems that she is intending to commit perjury, but if she does, in this court, she will likely get away with it.

You know what I would have done with this slug?
I would have said, “I have no questions for this witness.” Martinez would have been snockered and there wouldn’t have been a thing he could say in rebuttal, because there was no defense examination.
It would have made the jury feel this was a waste of time and that he was irrelevant. Which he was anyway.
That would have been a smart move!

What was that about a tape? Was it her trying to get something admitted?
I believe she was referring to the recording of her deposition or interview that has already been transcribed and she is saying she wants to hear the recording. Well, when you do depositions/interviews and there is a transcript the one answering the questions have to sign off on the transcript and have the ability to check it over for accuracy and make any corrections, etc. Deanna should have long ago done that so she is just stalling with this request to hear the audio. She already testified in the criminal trial that she lied and that she did have sex with TA and that she had previously lied about it ….JW needs to nail her to the wall tomorrow with her lies…….
I knew she had lied and that it came out at trial. I was so confused. She seemed like she was trying to make things seem fishy, like JW was trying to twist things up.
Do they keep all the tapes until the trial is over, or once it has been transcribed and signed, do they reuse them? Anybody know?

I think that it was a tactic to get the audio in. With audio there’s a chance a juror might not hear everything… by reading the transcript there’s no way anything is going to be misheard… I hope JW plays the audio for her tomorrow and then MAKES her read page 14 of the transcript!

You know I really think she knew before she took the stand that she wasn’t going to answer to the “less than forthright” accusations I think she was coached into saying she wanted to hear the audio as a way to avoid answering the questions Jennifer had for her. In that situation, when the judge grants permission to treat this person as a hostile witness, the attorney who has called the witness gets to employ the methods of one who is cross-examining the witness – most specifically the leading questions that one isn’t normally allowed to ask their own witness – but also the more generally aggressive tactics of the cross examiner.

It’s easy for all the friends to make her tow the TA was a great guy line, but it’s her butt in the hot seat committing perjury. They wouldn’t take the punishment for her, I’m sure. I think of Deanna as a door mat that TA trampled on for years and she is so used to it, now the Hughes et al have taken over.
Grow a backbone and moral conscience and tell the truth witnesses! Everybody calls Jodi a liar, but everyone else are the ones lying un oath, something Jodi did not do.

Question please : How does a hostile witness get treated? What is done differently?
It is how the attorney can question the witness. They can use leading questions to get the witness to testify to previous statements etc. That’s the only difference I know of.
I kinda covered that upthread but this is a busy thread so here goes
A Hostile Witness would be, for example, if the Defense team had called Deanna, knowing full well that she would be reluctant to say what they wanted her to say but expecting that she would honor her oath and tell the truth if pressed to do so. (ha)
Usually when one calls a witness, the attorney of whichever side that has called them is allowed to ask simple questions that invite the witness to give their narrative in their own way. They aren’t permitted to ‘lead’ the witness, to suggest what the witness is supposed to say, to prompt ‘is it true that’ so and so – none of that. They aren’t supposed to badger their own witness (JM doesn’t seem to know this) they aren’t supposed to use aggressive tactics with their own witness. But when one’s own witness is reluctant to say what they’ve been subpoenaed to say, it might be necessary sometimes to lead, to intimidate, etc. in order to get the truth out of them, so they ask the judge for permission to treat their own witness as hostile.

Essentially – what she said. An attorney gets to use cross exam tactics in their direct exam of their own witness if the Judge allows the witness to be treated as hostile.

Jodi & Patty’s pot plant had one leaf and was growing a second one when they got busted by mom and the cops were called. That was not a good way to handle the situation. Sandy probably regrets it now.
